The Tobacco Conspiracy
This film is considered a documentary because it outlines in detail real life events that occur. It is a video that is based on facts. The title of the documentary is called The Tobacco Conspiracy. The film talks about how the tobacco industry has been growing for five decades while at the same time selling a product that is endangering peoples lives. They are making money, off of killing people. The purpose of the documentary was to inform the public of the conspiracy and deception that occurred behind the scenes at large tobacco companies, and how they sell a product that is potentially fatal.

My Unsung Hero
The Unsung Hero that I chose to represent in my artwork was Greg Mortenson. Mortenson is an advocate for human rights and believes in education for everyone. He works in the Middle East providing education opportunities for young girls by building schools, and then providing funding for them in order to buy books and other resources essential to learning. I picked him as my unsung hero because I think that what he does is fantastic. He provides a learning opportunity to girls living in the Middle East where women are generally not allowed to learn. In addition to that, he has risked his life in many instances while in the Middle East providing for these girls. In one instance he was held captive as a hostage for three-four days before being released. I think that my design accurately represents my hero. He is like a light in the darkness for girls who want an opportunity to learn. My art represents that even through all of the chaos and hatred that occurs in the Middle East, that some people still prevail, and do work for the greater good.In my art I used photoshop to organize my collage, and scanned in the pictures of a peace sign on old paper that I drew, and placed them inside of the heart.

Our Unsung Heroes
Here are my favorite Unsung Heroes.
________________________________________________
1. Allyson Townsend
Allyson Townsend wanted her deaf friends to be able to experience music like she did, however they could not hear it. They had questions about the length of notes, and how you know when to sing the right word at the right time. So, she made a Youtube channel with different videos of her signing songs in sign language for her friends. She would exaggerate her features and lengthen or shorten her actions to portray them to her friends who couldn't hear. She provides a musical experience for deaf people across the country now, who wanted to experience music, and now they can.
2. Parvin Ardalan
Parvin is an Iranian women's rights activist, writer, and journalist. She was presented with the Olaf Palme Prize in 2007 for her efforts in creating gender equality in Iran between men and women, and in the 90's she opened a Womens Cultural Centre which is a place where women can gather to form opinions, and document women's issues in Iran. She was thrown into prison in 2007 after a protest that was violently interrupted for "threatening national security" because of her struggle for women's rights. She advocated for women's righs in a country where women are not given much power at all. She put her life and liberty in jeopardy when she attended protests and was even put in jail for her active participation in multiple demonstrations.
3. Margie Harkins
Margie Harkins is a high school math teacher who volunteered on the Peace Corps in Africa to help better the lives of the African people living there. She donated her time to help people in need across the world. She donated her time and effort into bettering the lives of people who were less fortunate than herself.
4. Greg Mortenson
Greg Mortenson is a humanitarian who believes in the education of all people. He specifically worked in Pakistan to build schools for the children there, who were currently going to school outside on the ground. In 1997 he was captured and held hostage at gunpoint for 8 days because of his building of schools for girls. He has since his early days of service received hateful e-mails and letters from Americans who are opposed to the education of Muslims. He has co-authored the book Three Cups of Tea which details his time spent in the Middle East and his service there. He is a hero because of his dedication to letting no child be left behind. He believes in equal opportunity of education for all. Regardless of age, or gender.
5. Julie Bindel
Julie Bindel is a feminist who opposes violence against women from a very feminist viewpoint. Her primary areas of interest include lesbian-rights, opposition to the sex industry (ie. trafficking) and domestic violence. She works to better the lives of women from violent environments, as well as prevent and protect women in the future. Bindel is a hero because she spends her time advocating for womens treatment and the ending of sex trafficking, which is a prominent dilemma in many countries including the U.S. Her efforts to help women and girls shows her humanitarian and caring attitude.
I guess if I had to portray my unsung heroes I would want to do a make a poster that was a collage of images. If I put this into Photoshop I could make multiple prints of the same image. If I didn't do a poster, I would want to make a print. I am choosing to do my collage on Greg Mortenson because I love the influence he had on the girls and younger people throughout the Middle East. I am working with Emilio Flores and Justin Molina.

My Favorite Blogs
So you can probably see now my five favorite blogs that I have found. The majority of them are somehow tied into art.
My first blog is...
http://jacquelinegnott.blogspot.com/
I really liked this blog because of the contrast presented when you went to the page. Her artwork was bold, colorful, and vibrant, while the background of the page was black, and subtle. The black background added to the color "pop" of her pictures. It drew your eyes to her actual work, and not to what was in the background. Her page was very easy to navigate with clear links to other pages as well as contact info if you wanted to buy her artwork.
Second Page
http://picxy.blogspot.com/
I liked this blog mostly because of the content, and less because of the design. The creator has all of their artwork folders displayed neatly and clearly on the front page, so they are easy to access. I also liked the graphics on the top of the page and how they designed it.
Third Page
http://rhemdoodles.blogspot.com/I liked this blog a lot because it had fun sketches and drawings on them. The page really catches your eye at first glance because of the graphic design at the top. It is bright, colorful, and filled with "motion". Again the black background which draws attention to the content itself. I really like his artwork because its fun and full of "action" and movement.
Fourth Page
http://www.thatunreliablegirl.com/
This blog was really cool because of the design at the top. I really like the artwork and it looks like it could have been done in photoshop. Her artwork is really cool because she takes them at different angles and adds different effects to make things more of an illusion. She also works with light graffiti which i like a lot. Her page is really easy to navigate because the side-tabs are black and stand out against the white background.
Last Page
http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/
This is probably my favorite out of the rest. I mean, look at the top! Insane, crazy looking doodle creatures are at the top of the page! Her title stands out clearly and boldly, and I like the color choices. Her page is full of made up stories she writes, and the older ones are easily accessible from the side of the page. Her links are bold and visible against the background, and the page is fun, and navigable. I love the content, and I love the design. :]
Enjoyy
