My Unsung Hero
The Unsung Hero that I chose to represent in my artwork was Greg Mortenson. Mortenson is an advocate for human rights and believes in education for everyone. He works in the Middle East providing education opportunities for young girls by building schools, and then providing funding for them in order to buy books and other resources essential to learning. I picked him as my unsung hero because I think that what he does is fantastic. He provides a learning opportunity to girls living in the Middle East where women are generally not allowed to learn. In addition to that, he has risked his life in many instances while in the Middle East providing for these girls. In one instance he was held captive as a hostage for three-four days before being released. I think that my design accurately represents my hero. He is like a light in the darkness for girls who want an opportunity to learn. My art represents that even through all of the chaos and hatred that occurs in the Middle East, that some people still prevail, and do work for the greater good.In my art I used photoshop to organize my collage, and scanned in the pictures of a peace sign on old paper that I drew, and placed them inside of the heart.
